Following the all-time, record turnout of ratepayers at the Woolwich Township Council meeting in Sept. 2019, virtually all opposing Capital Paving’s proposed gravel pit near the town of Maryhill, I would have thought that the company would have gotten the message that area residents are vehemently against their project.
I am far from an expert in aggregate extraction, but even I know that a gravel operation such as this is not appropriate in a location adjacent to the town of Maryhill and in close proximity to nearby businesses such as the long-established Merry Hill Golf Course, two world-class equestrian centres, a massive dairy farming operation, serving as an international model to the world, a long-established school, by all accounts, a first-rate educational institution, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre, unique and effective in its approach to treating heart disease, to mention just some of the area businesses and establishments near the proposed gravel pit.
The Cardiac Rehab. Centre and clinic located at the intersection of Hopewell Creek and Shantz Station Roads is, literally, only yards from the road that hundreds of gravel trucks would traverse to nearby Highway 7 on a daily basis.
The dust, dirt, noise, and air pollution which this constant stream of gravel trucks along Shantz Station Road would cause is a danger to the health of the hundreds of cardiac rehab. patients using the Clinic’s outdoor walking track and other facilities. At best, the site of Capital Paving’s proposed gravel pit is a poor location in what is currently a prime agricultural area.
I know that in your heart, Mayor Shantz, you will make the right decision that is best for the common good not only for the compromised heart condition of patients treated by Dr. Schaman and his medical staff, but also for the nearby residents of Maryhill and in the surrounding region.
Sincerely,
T. S.
